NICO General Insurance to insure Airtel Blackberry handsets

NICO General Insurance Company Limited and Airtel Malawi Limited last week launched Cellsure, an insurance package for Blackberry and state-of-the-art Samsung mobile phone handsets.
Speaking in Blantyre during the launch, Airtel Malawi Managing Director, Saulos Chilima said the insurance cover will enable customers to get back their mobile phones when lost or stolen.
He said an insured Blackberry and Samsung will give peace of mind and the freedom to users and enable them continue with their business when their phones have been replaced.
"It is a partnership that is going to transform the whole telecommunication sector in Malawi. This is a solution to redefine the essence of Blackberry," said Chilima.
Nico General Insurance Chief Executive Officer, Eric Chapola said Cellsure will help ease the lives of mobile phone owners as they will be assured that they will have their handsets replaced once lost or stolen.
"We know that there are already insurance products for mobile phones in Malawi but what we have done today is to change the strategy. We want to insure the phone from the point of sale. The moment you buy a phone, it gets insured at that point," said Chapola.
He stressed that Cellsure will only cover accidents, arguing people should not expect their gadgets to be replaced if they damage them deliberately.
